Lecture:
(Sunday 22 October 2006)
Andy Cave is one of Britain's top all-round climbers and has been exploring
new routes in the Himalayas, Patagonia, Alaska, Norway and Scotland
for over twenty years.
Showing great adaptability and skill, he is one of a handful of people
in the world to have climbed at 8000m, to E8 in rock climbing and Grade
8 on technical ice climbs.
However, Andy also takes a great interest in the people he meets on
his travels, and was recently awarded a PhD for his work in linguistics
and anthropology.

Andy's book, Learning to Breathe,
has won both the Boardman/Tasker Award and the Banff Adventure Travel
Award. This extraordinary lecture recounts Andy's journey from the depths
of the Yorkshire coal-mines to the triumphs and tragedies of Himalayan
climbs, and is accompanied by his superb photographs.
Andy's fascinating lecture is the final event in this year's EMFF, and
follows some terrific films and the short awards ceremony for the best
films and photographs. Get your tickets early as the closing session
has sold out in advance every year.
