PROFILE : BARRY BLANCHARD
A Climbing Life

Lecture:
(Saturday 20 October - 7pm)
Saturday Night Extreme

Barry Blanchard discovered mountain climbing in the books of his high school library. In 1980, he first visited the French Alps on a trip which set the course of Barry's life - to climb the steepest and most complicated faces of the world's great glaciated peaks.

Barry has enjoyed some successes: the first ascent of the apocalyptic North Pillar of North Twin; surviving the Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat; and the first ascent of Infinite Patience on Mount Robson. More importantly, Barry has enjoyed all of his outings, even the ones not included in the narrow definition of "success".

One of Canada's greatest mountaineers, and among the most inspirational speakers in the mountain world, Barry will take us through his exceptional career and share some of the lessons he has learned along the way.
