Crazy Kayakers Scoop Top Award

Fort William-based paddler Steve Rogers won the Best Film Award at the Edinburgh Mountain Film Festival 2004. His film, 'Never Say Nevis Again', illustrated a day in the life of local white-water paddlers Andy Jackson and Calum Anderson as they braved the furious waters of the River Nevis. With spectacular waterfall drops, excellent narration and some kicking tunes, the film was a big hit with the voting audience.

'African BASE' by South Africa's Fresh Air Crew came a close second, followed by Alistair Lee's entertaining 'Climbing in Morocco' in third. Local dry-tooler Paul Diffley was voted into 4th place for his debut film 'Fools With Tools', which has now been accepted by the Banff MFF in Canada.

In an encouraging expansion from 2003, over 1,500 people attended the festival over the weekend. There were five sessions with guest speakers and almost 20 action and adventure films were shown.

The festival's nominated sponsors - the Mountain Rescue Committee for Scotland and the John Muir Trust - also benefitted from over £1000 which was raised by the raffle. Thanks to Tiso, Mountain Equipment, Pocket Mountains and the JMT for donating prizes. Thanks also to everyone for buying the tickets!
