PROFILE : KAREN DARKE
By Hands & Feet Across Greenland

Lecture:
(Sunday 21 October - 2pm)
The Adventure Session

Karen Darke was a keen runner and mountaineer before being paralysed as a result of a rock-climbing accident. Since then, she has hand-cycled in the Himalaya; sea kayaked along the coastlines of British Columbia and Alaska; and, most recently, skied across the Greenland icecap.

Karen will share her story of a remarkable 600km traverse of Greenland by an unremarkable team of arctic travellers, which included a monosyllabic Finish Commando; a woman who hated the cold and skiing; an overweight climber who had never worn skis in his life; and Karen - a paraplegic woman who hadn't been able to walk for 13 years. Oh, and a gnome.
