The Adventure Session

Alastair’s quest for adventure began young. Aged 8, he completed the 26 mile Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge and at 14 he cycled off-road across England. Longer distance cycles while at university led up to a round the world trip of epic new proportions.

In a journey which Sir Ranulph Feinnes described as ‘The first great adventure of the 21st Century’, Alastair rode from England to South Africa, crossed the Atlantic by yacht and then cycled from Patagonia to Alaska. Crossing the Pacific by freighter, Alastair completed his expedition by cycling back to England from eastern Siberia.

Al made a 1 minute film about his trip, which shows off his superb photography - click here.

EMFF - Al Humphries lecture

Since his round the world trip, Alastair has raced a yacht across the Atlantic Ocean, canoed 500 miles down the Yukon River and walked the length of the holy Kaveri river in India. Alastair has also run the Marathon des Sables and completed an unsupported crossing of Iceland by foot and packraft.

Alastair is currently enjoying a year of ‘micro-adventures’ and is preparing for SOUTH, the first unsupported return journey to the South Pole and the longest unsupported polar journey in history
